Whitestown — Keitra Annette Smith, 28, Marion County, was killed instantly about 7:27 a.m. Monday when she lost control of her car and was struck broadside by a one-ton stake truck on northbound Interstate 65 just south of Indiana 267.

Whitestown Police Chief Dennis Anderson said his officers told him that witnesses saw Smith move from the far right lane into the middle lane of the interstate.

She then swerved back into the right lane, Anderson said, apparently in an attempt to enter a line of traffic exiting the interstate.

Those witnesses said Smith bounced off a guardrail into the path of the stake truck. Smith was then hit by a semi truck hauling pipe, and a car, Whitestown Police said in a press release. The two occupants of that car, who were not identified, were taken to area hospitals by Boone County EMS with non-life-threatening injuries, Anderson said.
