Funeral trust issue prompts probe of local funeral home

Boone County — An investigation into possible misuse of funeral trust funds by Jerry Trapp, owner of Russell and Hitch Funeral Homes, is under way by the Indiana State Police and the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office.

No charges have been filed.

Trapp, who has owned the funeral homes in Lebanon and Thorntown since 1986, said it was a paperwork error.

“I didn’t get a funeral trust right,” Trapp said Wednesday. “I didn’t get it in the bank in time.”

A funeral trust is prepayment for funeral services. Trapp said, “there were like two or three” trusts he didn’t file within a 30-day period.
