Lebanon muscles past Southmont 4-2

Linden — For the fourth-straight season, the Lebanon Tigers softball team will be playing for the sectional title.

The Tigers put up four runs early and held on to defeat Southmont 4-2 in the sectional semifinals Wednesday night in Crawfordsville.

“We came in expecting a tough game,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “We got some runs early because they made some mistakes because we were aggressive on the bases and made things happen. They have a good pitcher, and we didn’t do everything at the plate I wanted to, but we did enough to get the win.”

Lebanon came out and scored twice in the first inning.

Ashlyn Montgomery singled to lead off the inning and scored on a triple by Carly Greene.

Greene scored on a throwing error to make it 2-0.

The Tigers added another run thanks to a Mountie error. Jessica Weaver singled, and when Payton Hollis went to sacrifice her over, a throwing error allowed Weaver to come in and score.

Lebanon made it 4-0 in the third. Hannah Dybalski reached on an error and after stealing second, Lexy Britt singled.

Dybalski took a wide turn around third and when Britt broke for second, Southmont catcher Korbin Myers threw to second and Dybalski waltzed home.

Smith said it was important to score early.
