Lebanon dominates at Sagamore Tourney

WeBo places 2nd in rain-shortened event

Lebanon — Rainstorms wrecked havoc on the Sagamore Conference boys golf tournament Monday at Trophy Club.

But it couldn’t slow down the Lebanon Tigers.

Lebanon won the slightly rain-shortened event with a 306 (scored through only 17 holes).

“We got the conference win and that is always nice,” Lebanon head coach Andrew Dewees said. “I am proud of the guys; they battled through some weather and the elements and played pretty well overall.”

Western Boone placed second with a team-score of 327.

Head coach Willie Smith said he was really happy with his teams effort.

“I was really pleased with how we played,” Smith said. “All five guys played really well. At the turn we were 42, 43, 44 and two 45s so at that point all five guys were right in it. I was just really pleased with how all five played, and really have been the last week. We are starting to peak at the right time.”

Lebanon and Western Boone were in the first groups of four to take off.

With the first group of four approaching the 16th hole lightning was spotted and play was halted.

Because not every group had played at least nine holes, the teams waited out the 20-minute delay and went back on the course knowing that the next time lightning was spotted, the tournament would be called.

Eight of the 10 groups finished, and the two that didn’t were on the final hole, when heavy rains came through Lebanon.

Play was called for the night, and rather then going back to everyone’s scores at the ninth hole like originally planned, the conference coaches decided to add up everyone’s scores through 17 holes since all 40 golfers had finished that.

Both coaches liked the way their team handled the rain.
