---- — The Western Boone girls basketball team accomplished its goal of winning the sectional title on Saturday night against Lebanon.
Now, they are ready for more. The beginning of that next step starts Saturday, when the Lady Stars take on Tri-West in the regional semifinal at Danville.
Bishop Chatard takes on Owen Valley in the other semifinal. Those teams play at 10 a.m., with Western Boone and Tri-West starting 20 minutes after.
The winners play at 8 p.m.
"We have had a good week of preparation," Western Boone head coach Rich Schelsky said. "I think it always helps when you are playing a team that you are familiar with. I think that will help calm our nerves and adapt a little better to the environment and the surroundings. It was obviously a really emotional victory (on Saturday), one that our kids wanted really bad, but at the same time, our kids are so competitive and driven and know that there is more that we want to play for. That is the goal this weekend."
Coming off an emotional win against a rival to accomplish a goal isn't always easy to get over.
But Schelsky said that hasn't been a problem for his team.
"Thanks to Mother Nature, it was a lot easier to put it behind us because we couldn't practice on Monday," Schelsky said. "When we hit the practice court on Tuesday, they were ready to go. We wanted to win the sectional first and foremost obviously, but this group has bigger fish to fry. And they always have, no matter what sport they are playing. And that keeps them grounded. Yes, Saturday was a huge win and emotional and all that, but they know what is at stake and what they can accomplish."
For the third time in three games this post-season, Western Boone will face a team they played in the regular season.
