Mavericks cruise past Eagles in regular season finale

There wasn't a whole lot that went right for the Zionsville Eagles boys basketball team Friday night at McCutcheon.

The Eagles started 1 of 13 from the field, fell behind 18-2 and never recovered in a 51-34 loss to the Mavericks.

Zionsville finished the regular season 13-6 and 5-4 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.

"We weren't awake tonight, we were sleepwalking," Zionsville head coach Shaun Busick said. "You can't sleepwalk that is a little better than you are and they are better than us. Today they looked considerably better than us. Generally speaking I thought they were a team we were pretty even with and that it could go either way. But one team wanted to play and the other wanted to be passive and float through the game. They came out and took the bull by the horns."

Things started off poorly from the beginning for the Eagles.

The Mavericks hit 4-of-5 3-pointers in the first quarter, while holding the Eagles to 1-of-12 shooting.

After being down 16-2 at the end of a quarter, the lead grew to 18-2 after McCutcheon scored the opening basket of the second quarter. Zionsville finished the game shooting 15-of-46 for the game.
