Noblesville's defense shuts down Lebanon

Noblesville prides itself on holding teams under 50 points and the Millers did that and more in their final regular season game on Friday.

Noblesville (14-6) overwhelmed Lebanon (9-11) with its defensive pressure over the final three quarters and cruised to a 72-31 at the Mill.

“I thought our defense hurt them in the second quarter,” said Noblesville coach Dave McCollough. “We got after it, got a few traps in and they had a hard time handling the ball. That generated some offense for us.”

Jack Trittipo (17 points) and Jake Mills, who scored eight of his 14 points in the second quarter, provided the scoring punch for the Millers, but it was Noblesville’s defense that secured the win.

The Tigers struggled to dribble and pass out of double teams in the half court for much of the game and turned the ball over 18 times.

“They stepped up their pressure, we just were timid and we’ve been that way all year,” said Lebanon coach Albert Hendrix. “We don’t respond to teams getting physical with us, therefore, you see the outcome is what it is.”

After Noblesville outscored Lebanon 23-8 in the second quarter to take a 35-17 halftime lead, and in the second half the outcome was never in doubt.
