---- — Western Boone dominated the second quarter to pull away from North Montgomery and went on to win 64-28 in the first round of the Sugar Creek Classic on Friday night.

The Stars started the game on a 10-0 run, but the Chargers fought back to cut the lead to three, 15-12, after the first quarter.

Western Boone started fast again in the second quarter, this time on a 15-0 run. The Stars outscored the Chargers 19-2 in the second quarter to take control of the game.

“You got to tip you cap to North and coach Hampton, they gave us their best shots in the first quarter,” said Western Boone head coach Rich Schelsky. “They played well for as inexperience and young as they are. They came out and matched us punch for punch in the first quarter and did a good job staying with us.”

Schelsky said the Stars were able to play at the pace they wanted to.

"We want to play at a certain pace and tempo,” said Schelsky. “I think in the end that got their kids tired and probably was a big factor in the game.”

The Stars had a balanced scoring attack with five players having at least eight points.
