Lebanon tops WeBo in county wrestling dual

Dover — Following Saturday afternoon’s Sagamore Conference wrestling meet, Lebanon head coach Derek Bocock said he was looking for a way for the intensity to pick up in his team.

After Tuesday night’s win 47-20 win against Western Boone in front of a near capacity crowd, he doesn’t have to look anymore.

“It is always fun to come in and wrestle with a county rival,” Lebanon head coach Derek Bocock said. “The guys did well, they rose to the occasion and the intensity was much better than it was in conference.”

Bocock said that he thinks a win in that environment will help boost the energy in the team as they prepare for the sectional on Jan. 26.

“There is no doubt about it that this match will help us,” Bocock said. “The intensity level is going to grow off of this match. Anytime you get a win against a good opponent, you can take that momentum back into the locker room and make it a positive environment.”

For Western Boone, it was simply a matter of not winning enough matches.

“What it boils down to is they won 10 matches competed and we won four,” Western Boone head coach Kyler Kearby said. “There is no way possible to only win four matches and win the matches when all the weight classes are full.”
