Lebanon splits two to start season

It started nearly two weeks later than expected, but the Lebanon baseball team started its season Saturday with a double header against Hamilton Heights.

The Tigers dropped game one 11-1, before bouncing back in game two with an 18-5 win.

“We were good for the first three innings in game one, and unfortunately we hit two batters with the bases loaded that got their first two runs on the board,” Lebanon head coach Rick Cosgray said.  Once they got their bats going, they were able to produce 11 runs.  We just couldn’t string anything together. Even though we didn’t win, we felt like we took some good things away from game one. And we played well in game two.”

Lebanon had two hits in game one, a double by Ryan Reese and a single by Jackson Bennett.

Bennett scored the lone run on a fielders’ choice by Nick Starkey in the fifth.

Isaac Harker took the loss on the hill for Lebanon.

Cosgray said that the Tigers maturity helped them in bouncing back in game two.

“The one thing we talked about in between games was that I was counting on our maturity level (to help us),” the coach said. “We have a lot coming back so we should be mature enough to know what we need to do to come back and be successful. We were able to come back and get a few runs in the first inning and that set the tone for the game.”

Lebanon scored two in the first, but pulled away with 11 runs in the second inning.

Harker led the way with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.
