Lebanon swarms Noblesville 69-53

Noblesville — All the signs pointed to Friday night’s girls basketball match-up between Noblesville and Lebanon to be a close game.

The Tigers had different ideas. Lebanon used a 14-4 run in the second quarter to pull away and never were threatened in the second half in a 69-53 win.

“We talked a lot about Noblesville this week and obviously we have two teams to prepare for this week so it has been a difficult, long week for us,” Lebanon head coach Beth DeVinney said. “The kids came out really focused and ready to play tonight. We had a lot of things working tonight in the game.

“It was just a tremendous team effort. We got big minutes from people on the bench tonight. Everything is starting to click with these guys. They already had great chemistry and now we are starting to get into the fun stuff.”

Lebanon had three in double figures. Katie Curtis led the way with 20 points and added eight steals, six rebounds and three assists.

Kristen Spolyar had 16 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists, and Carly Greene added 11 points and five rebounds.

Lebanon had nine different players pull down a rebound in the game.

The Tigers also had six different scorers, six different girls register a steal and six girls have an assists.

As a team Lebanon had 23 steals and 10 assists.

“To have nine kids on the bench and for them to come in (and play well is important),” DeVinney said. “(Assistant coach) Penny (Spolyar) talked to them a  great deal this week about how hard they have to play when they come in. Regardless of whether or not you start, you want to be the one on the court finishing. We talked a lot about finishing the game. And those kids came in and they matched the intensity of the kid coming off the court and that was super nice.”

Whitney Cosgray was one of those sparks off the bench.

The sophomore guard had nine points, four steals and two rebounds.
