---- — Once the Western Boone defense got going, their was little North Montgomery could do in the Sectional 25 semifinal Friday at Frankfort.
After allowing North Montgomery to shoot close to 50 percent in the first quarter, the Stars held the Chargers to 25.7 percent the rest of the game and cruised to a 54-34 victory.
The Stars will face Crawfordsville tonight for the sectional championship.
"We were able to create some easy baskets and did a really nice job defensively tonight," Western Boone head coach Scott McClelland said. "I think we caught them off guard a little bit. I have to give a lot of credit to our kids. Their preparation was great. And our coaches made sure we were prepared and bounced back after a tough loss last Thursday. It was nice because we had six-straight practices and I don't know the last time we even had four-straight practice days. That was very helpful for us."
North Montgomery led 13-11 after a quarter thanks to the hot-shooting of leading scorer Grant Gayler.
He started 4-of-5 from the field and had 10 points in the first quarter.
But after that period, the Stars did a much better job on him, holding him to just 2-of-11 shooting and five points in the final three quarters.
"He is a really good player, a first-team all-conference player," McClelland said. "We had to limit him and find a way to do because it is not an easy task. I thought we were able to know where he was at the whole time and keep him in front of us so we could get a hand up and make him rush. I thought we were able to do that."
North Montgomery took an 18-11 lead with 5:57 left in the first half, but then the Stars turned it on.
