Western Boone ends Lebanon’s season in sectional semis

Dover — There was a sense of deja vu Saturday afternoon at Western Boone in the sectional semifinal match between Western Boone and Lebanon.

In a match very similar to the regular season meeting Oct. 9, the Stars defeated Lebanon 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 26-24).

“We had the slow start mentality and it burned us,” Lebanon head coach Rob Zajdel said. “As the game went on we started to get more confident in what we could do on offense and we started attacking at them. We needed to do that the whole game. I thought we could take that last game, but Western Boone is a strong team.”

Western Boone cruised to a 25-11 win in the first game.

Lebanon played better in game two, but a 7-0 run by Western Boone after the game was tied at 8 put the Stars in control.

From the onset of game three, Lebanon gave Western Boone everything it could handle.

Lebanon led 11-7, when Western Boone got kills from Casi Neff, Nicole Chance and Emily Harrison to cut the deficit to 11-10.

But Lebanon responded with a 5-1 spurt, getting two kills from Farren Miller and one each from Payton Hollis and Kristen Spolyar to take a 16-11 lead.

The lead eventually grew to 22-15.

“We were playing as six individuals and not a team,” Western Boone head coach Laura Lawson said. “When we get down, we like to shut down and space each other away. When we started come together we played well.”
