---- — With six players back from last year's squad, the Western Boone boys basketball team is looking to improve on last year's 10-11 campaign from last year. Head Coach Scott McClelland likes what he has seen from the team so far. "I think our practices so far have been competitive," he said. "I'm OK with where we are at. I don't think we have had a bad day. We have had some really good aspects of practice and like every team, these first seven or eight days, you are constantly stopping and teaching so it is hard to build consistency. But overall, I think we are OK and we have gotten better in the short time we have been together." McClelland said he sat down with some of the returning players after the team's first practice and they were able to set forth some goals for the season. "It is easy to start saying we want to win this, or win that, but we want to build goals that are attainable and something we can think about every day," McClelland said. "One of the first ones we talked about was getting better every day. We want to improve in every aspect we can every day. This group knows that it has been 20 years since this school has won a conference title and 14 years since we won a sectional. That isn't our kids fault or responsibility, but it is something to strive for. We want to get a number on the board or get a banner. That has been an added motivation. But the goals we focus on are getting better every day with the knowledge that we are going to be a better team at the end of the year than at the beginning of the season."
