Stars top Harrison in five-game thriller

The Western Boone volleyball team had to dig deep Tuesday evening when they hosted 4A Harrison in a non-conference match. The Stars did just that, winning a five-game battle with the Raiders 25-17, 20-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-11. "I am very proud of the girls," Western Boone head coach Laura Lawson said. "I think this is what we needed. We lost to a great Center Grove team on Saturday and I think that match helped us prepare for tonight. We saw how good of a team we could be, and this is a big confidence builder for the rest of our season." After splitting the first two games, there was a long delay at the start of the fifth game. With Western Boone leading 1-0, Madison Morton went back to serve and the referee blew her whistle with the ball in the air. After a nearly 15-minute delay sorting things out, it was ruled that Morton had served out of turn and Harrison was given a point. Originally it looked like the score would be 2-1 Harrison, because Morton's serve went into the net, so the Raiders would get that point, plus the penalty. But after the discussion it was deemed the whistle blew before the serve so Harrison only got the one point. For more of this story, read Wednesday's Lebanon Reporter.
