---- — The Zionsville softball team got its first win of the season Saturday in convincing fashion, topping the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles 15-6.
The win improved the Eagles to 1-1 on the season.
"It is a great first win," Zionsville head coach Lori Esparza said. "We have a very young team and they needed this under their belts. I love that they had a hiccup last week and turned around and practically run-ruled this team today. This team can hit."
Although it was just the second game of the season, Esparza said that it was good to get a win for the team's confidence.
"It was huge for the kids, especially the pitchers," Esparza said. "The pitchers are learning how to compliment each other and gaining confidence in that relm. Also for the coaches really because we are still figuring things out. We saw some really good things today on who is working well with who."
It was the first game since March 27 for the Eagles.
Esparza said that the team got together during Zionsville's spring break this week and it paid off.
"We have a very hard working team," Esparza said. "They forego their spring break, they cut it short so they could come back here and work Thursday and Friday. They put in some really long hours out here and in the gym this week and they were prepared for today."
Guerin Catholic scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Zionsville countered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
