Eagles top Stars 12-1 in six innings

The Zionsville baseball team improved to 4-2 on the season Wednesday afternoon against Boone County foe Western Boone.

The Eagles scored in every inning in a 12-1, six-inning win.

"I thought our kids played well," Zionsville head coach Jered Moore said. "We got most everybody in and 1-9 everybody did a good job. The pitchers threw well and threw strikes. Our hitters hit, I think we only had two strikeouts which is good. Then defensively we played well."

The loss dropped Western Boone to 0-3 on the season.

Head coach Cesar Barrientos said that while the loss was tough, the Stars are improving.

"It was a little rough, but we are definitely getting better," Barrientos said. "We had our first games this weekend so we are still getting used to live pitching and live situations. We still looked a little confused at times. But as we are progressing, we are starting to make better decisions and it is starting to become more natural. One of the things we have talked about is baseball-isms and some things we have to learn as an organization, a team and a school, just things that haven't been here before. We worked really hard. Today, I saw some improvement."

Barrientos said having challenging games at the beginning of the Stars' schedule will help them in the long run.

"It is fantastic for us," Barrientos said. "I want to see us get our teeth kicked in because one of the things I tell them is that it is not about the failing, but how they bounce back. I think we showed some character today and continued to compete. I told them up by 100 or down by 100, we need to compete. Once we get to our conference and see teams our size, we will be significantly more competitive."
