Stars get first win over University

The Western Boone baseball team put it all together Friday afternoon against University.

Behind strong pitching and hitting, the Stars got their first win in five tries on the season, topping University 14-4 in six innings.

"It feels amazing to get that first win," Western Boone head coach Cesar Barrientos said. "I just want them to feel amazing and hope they feel like it is pay day for all the hard work they put in. It is definitely a better feeling."

University actually took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of two Western Boone errors to score three unearned runs.

But the Stars offense went right to work. TJ Wilson reached on an error to lead off the game and quickly stole second and third.

Nathanial Bye followed with a walk and stole second to put runners on second and third with no outs. After a strike out, Tyler Hale was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Wilson scored on a passed ball that also allowed the other two runners to move up. After a pop out, Cameron Cline came up with a clutch two-run single to tie the game at three.

"I was beyond excited to see us come right back," Barrientos said. "That goes back to the competing aspect we are looking for. We want to compete no matter what the score is. I loved the fact that we had that fight to come back."

After holding the Trailblazers scoreless in the top of the second, Western Boone took the lead in the second thanks to the speed of Wilson.

He singled with two outs, stole second and third and scored on a passed ball to make it 4-3.

The Stars then blew the game wide open in the bottom of the third.
