Western Boone Track and Field Club sends two to nationals

Bennett Imboden and Michael Dunn of the Western Boone Track Club have qualified for and will be going to the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.

The meet will take place July 23-29 on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.

The event is put on by USA Track & Field (USATF), the national governing body for the sport and the same organization that selected the U.S. Olympic Team that will compete in London later in just a couple of weeks.

Imboden and Dunn qualified for the national championships by finishing in the top 8 at the Indiana Association meet in Fort Wayne in June.

From there, they had to place in the top-five sports in the Region 7 Meet (Indiana and Ilinois) in the beginning of July.

The competition takes place in two-year age divisions, with Imboden competing in the Intermediate division (athletes born 1996-1997) and Dunn competing in the Youth division (athletes born 1998-1999).

Imboden will be competing in the intermediate decathlon.  He qualified out of the regional meet with a score of 3,090 points.

The decathlon consists of 10 events contested over a two-day period.

The events include:  100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500-meter run.

Dunn will be competing in the youth high jump.

He goes into the national championships with a personal best jump of 4-feet-9.75-inches.
