Tigers get sweep with 2 in seventh

Lebanon — Lebanon senior Michael Spolyar did a little bit of everything Friday night in his final regular season game against Western Boone.

He started the game and pitched four innings while giving up one hit and one run, made two key plays in right field in the later innings and added an insurance run with an RBI-triple in the seventh to allow Lebanon to top the Stars 5-3.

“I have been really pleased with our senior leadership,” Lebanon head coach Rick Cosgray said. “All four of our seniors have done a nice job, including Stephen Cawthon who pitch ran for us. But Michael Spolyar pitched very well for us today, then made two plays in right field throwing people out and then getting the triple late — that is what we look for from our seniors. I am very happy for him.”

Western Boone loaded the bases in the first and put runners on second and third in the second inning but failed to score both times.

It was a trend for the Stars all game, as they stranded 10 runners — including eight in scoring position.

“We left a lot of runners on base,” Western Boone head coach Dave Sloan said. “Those are opportunities against a good team and you can’t do that. Some of the guys coming up in those spots play three sports so they aren’t able to get some off-season swings. I’m not trying to make excuses, but we are waiting to get some more reps and time on the field so we can get adapted to the outdoors.”

Lebanon — which served as the away team even though the game was played at Memorial Park — didn’t have a base runner in the first two innings, but plated three runs in the third.
