Reese’s single sends Tigers home winners

Lebanon — In recent years, whenever the Lebanon and Frankfort baseball teams meet, it is bound to come down to the final inning.

Wednesday night was no different. Ryan Reese delivered an opposite-field single to score Nick Starkey and give Lebanon the 4-3 come-from-behind victory in game one of a double header. Frankfort led 1-0 in game two before weather postponed the game.

“I am very proud of the guys,” Lebanon head coach Rick Cosgray said. “We had a couple of seniors step up. Travis Herrin on the mound had another good outing and then Ryan Reese stepped up and got the huge hit. It was good to see those two step up for us.”

The game was tied at 2 heading into the final inning. Frankfort went ahead 3-2 on an RBI by Jordan Ham and looked to add some insurance by loading the bases with two outs.

But Tiger starter Travis Herrin got out of the jam without allowing any more runs to score.

“I went out and talked to him and asked him ‘do you want to get yourself out of this?’” Cosgray said. “He said yes so I just told him to get the job done. And he did a great job. He has a lot of experience and he didn’t have his best stuff tonight, but he had enough to get the win.”

Lebanon came up needing one to tie and two to win.

Nathan Kincaid got things started with a double down the left-field line and Nick Starkey laid down a bunt that he beat out to put runners on the corners.
