Undermanned Hot Dogs swept by WeBo

The Frankfort volleyball entered Thursday’s Sagamore Athletic Conference matchup with Western Boone missing two important starters, putting the Hot Dogs at a huge disadvantage from the get-go against one of the best teams in 3A – Western Boone. Senior Ericka Ham, the team’s top hitter, and freshman Carson Hackerd, who are the team’s two setters in the 6-2 formation, were out injured after colliding with each other against Harrison on Tuesday. The Stars made quick work of the undermanned Hot Dogs, defeating the host 3-0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-12). Frankfort (5-9, 2-1 Sagamore Athletic Conference) doesn’t have a junior varsity team, so with no setter to bring up, sophomore middle hitter Tania Olivas was called into duty. Olivas finished with 10 assists. In the collision on Tuesday, Ham suffered a concussion when her head hit Hackerd’ right knee, and Hackerd has a bruised knee. Ham will miss this weekend’s Hot Dog Invitational but should be ready for the Clinton Prairie match on Thursday. Hackerd should be available this weekend, Frankfort head coach Kia Rushton said. “Both were going same speed and didn’t realize the other was there,” Rushton said. “Ericka gets the most attempts on the ball and Tania gets the third-most amount, and now they’re not offensive threats. Tania did what she could; for never having set the ball, I thought Tania did a phenomenal job. You wouldn’t know that she had never set the ball, in my opinion.” Ham averages 3.4 kills and 2.6 assists per set, and Hackerd gets 4.6 assists a game. With a revamped Hot Dog lineup, Western Boone won the first set 25-7 and didn’t look back. With the Stars prepping for a match with Class 4A Center Grove on Saturday, head coach Laura Lawson said she didn’t think there was enough intensity displayed.
