Eagles pin Tigers on Lebanon senior night

Lebanon — Pinfalls were plentiful Wednesday night in the annual dual meet between the Zionsville Eagles and Lebanon Tigers.

Ten of the 14 matches were decided by pin in the match that Zionsville won 46-30.

“Lebanon has some really stout kids in their line-up,” Zionsville head coach Bob Brennan said. “It started with five pins in a row so I thought it was going to be a really fast dual meet. Unfortunately some of those pins were against us. It was a nice win, it was their senior night so they were really fired up and they came out with a lot of emotion. The kids picked it up, we got some more intensity and the crowd got into it which helped us out.”

Of the eight wins Zionsville had, seven were by pinfall and the other was by major decision.

Brennan said that maximizing team points in matches is something the Eagles have stressed.

“Really that is the important part,” Brennan said. “When you are out there we are trying to score as many points as you can. People always say that wrestling is an individual sport, but really the team part is working for those extra points and getting the pin. To me, when we are talking to the kids that is what we focus on.”

While the Tigers didn’t come away with a victory, head coach Derek Bocock liked the way Lebanon competed against one of the top teams in the sectional.

“I thought our guys wrestled well,” Bocock said. “They are a very tough, well coached team and I thought our kids came out and battled. We got some pins where I didn’t think we were going to get some and they got some where I didn’t think they would so it all evened out. It was a good battle for us, a good test against a sectional opponent and they are a very good program.”
