Lebanon blasts Brebeuf by 42

Indianapolis — The Brebeuf Jesuit Lady Braves shot better than 50 percent in the first quarter of their Tuesday night game against the Class 3A No. 3 Lebanon Lady Tigers.

But the problem for the Braves was they still trailed by 10 after the first eight minutes. Things got worse from there.

Lebanon held Brebeuf to 23 percent shooting and cruised to its seventh-straight victory 68-26.

“We have been focusing on our defense,” Lebanon head coach Beth DeVinney said. “We made a lineup change tonight and went with a little quicker of a lineup. Brebeuf, to me athletically, had the potential to give us a lot of fits. You saw that they could catch, get to the basket and do some things. We decided to go with a quicker lineup to slow that down. Then we were able to get everyone in and had every one contribute big minutes.”

The line-up change DeVinney alluded to was inserting Whitney Cosgray for Kate O’Rourke.

The move worked perfectly. Cosgray scored six points and caused havoc as the top of the Tigers’ press and zone in the first half, and when O’Rourke came in she added six points and a team-best six rebounds.

DeVinney was proud of the effort up and down the lineup.

“Whitney Cosgray came in and played some outstanding defense early in the game and then we were able to counterbalance and go with a little bigger of a lineup,” DeVinney said. “Kate O’Rourke came in and gave us some big rebounds at the end and just got more motivated and was able to go in there and mix it up a little bit. I can’t say enough about those kids. Carly Greene was a beast on the inside tonight. Katie played great and Kristen (Spolyar) did a great job of getting up and down the floor, got fouled quite a bit and made some big shots in that run too.”

With the score 5-4 early in the first quarter, Lebanon went on a 11-2 run to push the lead to 16-6.
