---- — Lebanon — The Lebanon boys basketball team evened its record Saturday night against Terre Haute North.
The 53-40 victory over the Patriots improved the Tigers to 1-1 on the season.“I felt like the kids didn’t play timid,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix said. “We played really timid against Hamilton Heights. (Saturday) we got over the hump. Terre Haute North is a physical team and we didn’t make some of the mistakes that we did Wednesday. That was the biggest thing.”Hendrix said that he liked the team’s ability to bounce back after a tough loss Wednesday night, especially on a fairly short turnaround.“I thought it was a good sign,” Hendrix said. “Wednesday was a tough loss. We didn’t play well, but you have to give credit to Hamilton Heights; they were aggressive and we didn’t handle it. We worked on it on Friday before the game and we did a better job of handling it. We only had eight turnovers on Saturday night.”Both teams the Tigers have played have been bigger, physical schools.
Hendrix said that will help prepare the Tigers for the end of the season.“It is obviously going to help us when we play Kokomo, Zionsville, Noblesville and the other 4A teams we play at the end of our season,” Hendrix said. “It is also going to help when we get to postseason play.”Hendrix said numerous players stood out in the victory.“Sam Godby had a really good game; he had 10 points and five assists,” Hendrix said. “He showed really good leadership in the game. Nick Starkey was really solid for the second-straight game. Trevor Lakes played very well as did our freshman Clayton Barber. All of our kids played a role. Our starters did a good job and our bench kids did a good job of maintaining their effort. It was overall a really good game for us.”The Tigers will be back in action Friday night in the conference opener against Crawfordsville.
The girls game will be at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow.
The Athenians are 0-2 on the season.“Turnovers are going to be a key,” Hendrix said. “Wednesday we had around 20 turnovers and lost, Saturday we had eight and won, that is the whole key. Every possession is going to be important.”Hendrix said that it is also important to start the conference season off on the right foot.“Always important to start conference with a win, but more importantly to keep giving our kids more confidence,” he said. “The more games we are able to get under our belt, the more successful we will be with our mental attitude.”
