Lebanon’s Schroeder finishes in top-half at state

Franklin — It was a strong start to the second day of the IHSAA State Finals for Lebanon’s Zach Schroeder.

But unfortunately, it was unable to last. Schroeder struggled to get in a groove in round two, finishing with a 78 for a two-day total of 152 (8-over) — good for 43th place.

“I had troubles getting going,” Schroeder said. “That is pretty much how my day went today. I hit a couple of good shots and couldn’t close it out on the greens. Then when I putted well, I didn’t hit enough good shots to get a good score. That is just how the day went.”

Schroeder birdied the second hole and stood at 1-over for the tournament through the first four holes. Even after bogeying holes 5 and 8, he was in decent position at 3-over making the turn.

But the back nine proved to be more difficult.

He triple-bogeyed the par-5 10th hole and bogeyed the 13th to fall to 7-over.

Schroeder birdied the par-3 16th, but closed out with bogeys on the 17th and 18th when he just missed par putts.
