Eagles go back-to-back by blasting Shamrocks

After two emotional victories against Carmel and Guerin Catholic, there was no let down from the Zionsville Lady Eagles Saturday night when they faced Westfield for the sectional championship. Behind a hat trick from Katy Keen, Zionsville won their second-consecutive sectional championship with a 4-0 shutout of the Shamrocks. "It really hit us more today than it did yesterday," Zionsville head coach Ramon Aguillon said during a phone interview Sunday. "It is very rewarding to win back-to-back sectionals, especially with as tough as our sectional is. This year it may be even more rewarding because we had to go through Carmel and Guerin then beat a really good Westfield team." Earlier in the season, the Eagles won a close 1-0 decision against Westfield, needing a goal in the final minutes to escape with a victory. Aguillon said this time around there were a couple of things that made the game different. "The big difference was that the first time we played them it was a smaller, turf field," he said. "You do the best you can, but it is a difficult thing to adjust to. Saturday we played on a larger, grass field and used that to our advantage. The second big thing was that our girls were really focused and ready. After having two big wins, the girls didn't want to let this one slip away." Zionsville jumped out to a 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the match when Keen scored. Just a few minutes later, Pooh Lewis scored to make it 2-0; a lead the Eagles would carry into the half. Aguillon said it was important to take an early lead in the game. For more of this story, read Tuesday's Lebanon Reporter.
