---- — It was a tall task for the Zionsville volleyball team on senior night Thursday. The Eagles faced Avon — No. 2-ranked in Indiana and No. 22 in the nation — to conclude their regular season. While the match went the Orioles' way 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-18), there were positives for Zionsville. "We fought better tonight than we have in a couple of weeks," Zionsville head coach Dawn Jones said. "We had tremendous blocking and some tremendous digs. Looking forward, that gives us momentum for sectionals." It was the end of a tough week for Zionsville, who also matched up with top-ranked Carmel (14th nationally) on Tuesday. "We talked this week about using everything as part of working to be better during sectionals," Jones said. "That is what we did tonight. There are pros and cons to playing those teams at the end of the season, but the one thing it will help with is working around a big block." In game one, Zionsville led early in game one 9-7. But the Orioles closed the set on a 18-2 run to win the game. "We had to make some adjustments in passing," Jones said. "They had one great server and she just tore us apart. We just had to talk about having confidence when you pass." For more of this story, read Friday's Lebanon Reporter.
