Tiller finishes his career at state

Zionsville senior Clark Tiller saved his best for last at the IHSAA State Tournament on Wednesday.

Tiller fired a 2-over 74, his best round at the state meet in his five rounds in high school, and finished with a two-day total of 7-over, 151. He placed 18th.

"I was happy with the round," Tiller said. "Looking back on yesterday, I really took what happened and learned from it. You can see that in the score."

Zionsville head coach Steve Simmons said he thought his senior had a good two days at the Legends of Indiana.

"Other than a bad break on No. 8 yesterday and one poor tee shot, he played really well both days," Simmons said. "The conditions were tough, I think if we could do it again we probably would have changed clubs on the 8th yesterday so he doesn't hit it out-of-bounds. But for the most part, he played really solid golf. Today, he played about as well as he could play."

For the second-straight day Tiller started on the 10th hole and had a great start.

Wednesday, he birdied the 10th and 11th to be 2-under through two holes.

"That 10th hole is pretty easy, especially being a long hitter," Tiller said. "I hit driver, did the math, found the distance I liked and just hit a nice, close shot. Then the 11th was just a bonus after that. I got off to a good start, felt good and that is what helped throughout the day."
