Lebanon crushes North Putnam 91-37

Roachdale — It wasn’t the stiffest competition it will face all season long, but the Class 3A No. 8 Lebanon Tigers were clicking on all cylinders in its season-opening win against North Putnam.

The Cougars – a possible sectional opponent – had no answer for Cord Barricklow and Caleb Brannon and the Tigers coasted to a 91-37 win.

The 91 points were the seventh most in the last 18 years for Lebanon.

“That is a good opener for us,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix said. “North Putnam is well-coached, but they are one of the smallest 3As in the state and they are trying to compete with a lot bigger school. Our kids came out on the offensive side tonight and played with a lot of energy. That was difference. “

The Tigers two seniors got them going right away Saturday night.

Cord Barricklow had 11 first-quarter points and Caleb Brannon had 10 as Lebanon raced out to a 26-9 lead.

The margin was the exact same in the second quarter, as Lebanon led 52-18.

“We got the ball inside early and that opened some shots up for Caleb and Noah Molter, who also hit some shots,” Hendrix said. “We were able to get some good shots out of our offense. That was a good win to start the year.”

There was no let-up in the third quarter.

Lebanon scored the first nine points, and 20 of the first 23, to increase the lead to 72-21 on a basket by Molter.

Hendrix was most happy with keeping the Cougars to seven points coming out at halftime.

“We kept the pedal down more on the defensive end then we did on the offensive end. We had one lull during the quarter, and we took a timeout and talked about how we weren’t worried about the score, but just working on ourselves.”
