Tigers fall short in upset bid

Lebanon — The Lebanon Tigers wrestling team gave it everything they had Thursday night when they wrestled the No. 16 Roncalli Rebels.

But in end, the Rebels won key matches down the stretch and prevailed 40-31.

“We are very pleased with our guys and our program,” Lebanon head coach Derek Bocock said. “We are improving, which is a big bonus for us to be able to improve against a very good team. That is encouraging.”

The Tigers have been close against state-ranked teams in the past few seasons, but have never been able to come out on top.

Bocock said there are a few things the Tigers have to do to be able to pull some of those upsets.

“Really to be honest, it takes having the right guys in the right spots and right now we don’t have that in our system,” Bocock said. “We are still working that out. That is one thing and the other thing is to continue to develop fundamental, essential technique that will make us a better team.”

Ethan Bower got Lebanon off to a good start at 152 pounds with a pinfall win.

D.J. Moore followed a couple of matches later with a pinfall win to make the score 12-6.

Roncalli won the next three matches by pinfall to take a 24-12 lead.

Lebanon started to chip into the lead with Cody Bauer’s 4-3 victory at 285 pounds.
