Lady Tigers pull away from Warriors in second half

Danville — It wasn’t the first half the Lebanon Lady Tigers were looking for Friday night when they traveled to Danville.

But after being tied at 32 at the half, Lebanon out-scored the Warriors 38-30 in the second half to win 70-62.

“Basically in the first half we had zero intensity,” Lebanon head coach Beth DeVinney said. “We came out really flat. We got into them in the locker room about how they weren’t excited, they weren’t fired up — they were just flat. As our emotion goes, so does our team. We gave them a little bit of a talking to at halftime and they came back out in the second half and put some intensity together and our press was really clicking.”

After losing to Western Boone last Friday, Lebanon now has two-straight impressive road wins, including one against No. 2 Western.

“This was a big week for us,” DeVinney said. “We needed to make sure we got at least one win and getting two and beating a really good Western team was huge for us. We are 2-1 in the conference and we put ourselves in a hole there. We have to win out in the conference to have a chance to tie. We are just trying to get better, that is what we have been talking about.”

Kristen Spolyar led the Tigers with 24 points, while Carly Greene added 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooke Montgomery chipped in nine points in the winning effort.

“Obviously we would like to have more balanced scoring, but you can’t say enough about Kristen,” DeVinney said. “She is starting to put some really good games together getting to the basket and hitting big shots when they matter. This is the second-straight game she had a three-point play when things started getting tight and stretched the lead. Then Carly’s game continues to expand. She has the freedom to do all of those things in the offense and she is starting to get better reads on things. Both of them are doing a great job.”

The Lady Tigers are off until Friday when they host Hamilton Heights.
