Stars’ miscues aid Tri-West in 10-4 victory

Dover — The Western Boone softball team had a chance to help its conference championship hopes Tuesday when they hosted Tri-West in the first of two games.

But early miscues in the first inning led to a 4-0 deficit and the Bruins remained unbeaten in the Sagamore Conference with a 10-4 win.

“(They capitalized on our mistakes), that sums it up,” Western Boone Mike Vanderpool said. “They are a good quality team and I knew they were going to be solid hitting. The first inning we had four errors that gave them momentum in the game. Then after that we continued to have mental and physical errors.”

Western Boone had chances in the early innings, putting two on in the first and getting two-out doubles in the second and third, but couldn’t cut into the lead.

The Stars finally came through in the fifth, cutting the lead to 4-1 on an RBI-hit by Lydia Climer, but Tri-West scored five times in the top of the sixth to put the game away.

Western Boone got its final three runs in the sixth on an RBI-double by Ashley Burns, an RBI-ground out by Hannah Williams and an RBI-single by Savannah Bealmear.

Vanderpool said that he thought his team hit the ball better the second half of the game.
