When it comes to winning games late in the season, it doesn’t matter how pretty a win is — a win is a win.
The Western Boone softball team utilized that Tuesday, topping Danville 7-4.
“What I told the girls after was that the way that we have been playing this year — that was an ugly win for us,” Western Boone head coach Mike Vanderpool said. “But at this time of the year, you will take a win anyway you can get it. We want to bounce back Wednesday and Thursday and correct some of those mistakes. The thing is, even when we made some mistakes we normally don’t make, our girls never give up.”
Western Boone got two runs in the first inning.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Savannah Bealmear hit a pop up that landed between two Danville defenders for a single to score two runners.
Danville scored a couple of unearned runs to tie the game in the third, but the Stars bounced back for fourth runs in the fourth.
