Schilling Jr. heading to UCLA

Lebanon — Ed Schilling Jr. is heading west to join Steve Alford’s staff at UCLA.

Schilling Jr., who played high school basketball at Lebanon and started his coaching career at Western Boone, announced Wednesday that he was joining Alford’s staff as an assistant.

He had been the head coach at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis the past four seasons, leading the Panthers to a 87-18 record at state championships in 2011 and 2012.

He also founded the Zionsville-based Champions Academy, a non-profit organization that helps train players from middle school through college.

He is no stranger to college coaching. After coaching at Western Boone and Logansport, he became an assistant coach at UMass under John Calipari, helping the Minutemen to the Final Four.

He also served stints as an assistant for the NBA’s New Jersey Nets and the University of Memphis (both under Calipari).

He was also the head coach at Wright State from 1997-2003.
