LHS grabs control SAC race

Lebanon — Coming into the season, not many people gave the Lebanon Tigers boys basketball team much of a chance to three-peat as Sagamore Conference champions.

But following Friday night’s 62-50 win against Frankfort, the Tigers sit at 4-0 in the conference, have beaten both pre-season favorites (Danville and Frankfort) and are in firm control of the conference race.

“A lot of credit goes to our kids,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix said. “Tonight was a team win. I saw some fight in our kids tonight, which we haven’t really always got up until this point. Our kids stood up for each other tonight, but did it in a proper way. It was just a good team win.”

The Tigers attacked Frankfort from the get-go, forcing all five Frankfort starters into two fouls in the first half (three players would eventually foul out).

But while Lebanon got to the free-throw line 40 times, they only hit 22 of the attempts (55 percent).

However, in the final minute of the game, the Tigers made 9-of-12 attempts in the final minute of the game.

“You would certainly think we don’t shoot a lot of free throws in practice but we shoot them all the time,” Hendrix joked. “We just haven’t shot them very well. But we hit them when they counted most in the final minute and hopefully down the road it will help us out.”
