The Lebanon Lady Tigersharks winning their second-straight Sagamore Conference title wasn’t much of a surprise.
But the way they did it may have been. Lebanon shattered the conference record by scoring 497 points to claim the conference title.
“When we beat Crawfordsville in our dual I thought we were pretty deep and asked the Crawfordsville coach what the record was and it was 456 points,” Lebanon head coach Michael Dollens said. “That gave us a focus. We were hashtagging our tweets “456.” That was something we were looking forward to, not just showing up and winning.”
The Lady Tigersharks won five events on the day.
Gabi Reese led the way with three event wins. She won the 200-yard IM in 2:23.08 and was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Reese, Shannon Jones, Hannah Smith and Kailyn Stogsdill placed first in 1:47.28. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Reese, Smith, Betsy Williams and Morgan Glendenning won in 4:01.23.
Stogsdill won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.79 and Glendenning won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.08.
But, while happy with his top girls, Dollens said the middle of the line-up really stepped up Saturday.
Along with the five wins, Lebanon had seven other top-3 swims: The 200-yard medley relay team of Makayla Copeland, Jones, Glendenning and Stogsdill (second), Glendenning (second in the 200-yard freestyle), Nina Wornhoff (third in the 200-yard freestyle), Smith (third in the 50-yard freestyle), Lauren Conley (third in diving), Stogsdill (second in the 100-yard butterfly) and Reese (second in the 100-yard freestyle).
