Dover — It wasn’t very often that you saw Western Boone seniors LV Bowden and CJ McMann apart on Western Boone athletic teams the past four years.

And now, you can see them together in college too. The two friends will both be headed to Wabash College next season to play football.

McMann will also play on the basketball team.

“It is something we always talked about doing,” Bowden said Wednesday at a signing ceremony for the two athletes. “We knew at some point that we were going to have to decide. We weren’t sure it would always happen, but it’s nice.”

McMann said that the two have been best friends since they were in elementary school and is excited they can continue their journey into collegiate athletics together.

“We have been best friends for a long time,” McMann said. “It is going to be awesome to go to college with him and play at a whole new level for four more years. He is my best friend; I couldn’t ask for more.”

Both Bowden and McMann said that they didn’t base their decision on where the other was going, but were happy when it worked out the way it did.

Bowden seriously consider Marian University and Wabash, while McMann narrowed his list to Wabash and Rose-Hulman.

McMann said that going to a good academic school was important in his decision-making process.

“Wabash is a great school educationally and athletically,” McMann said. “It is a great place to play sports, get a good education and get a good job after.”
