Tigers jump in front early, cruise to win

The Lebanon softball team saw its offense explode in the first inning Tuesday evening against Frankfort.

And even though the offense stalled in the later innings, the 7-run first inning was more than enough in an 8-1 win against the Hot Dogs.

"I loved our focus coming out here," Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. "The wind was blowing strongly when we got here and we talked about that and keeping the ball down and hitting line drives. I thought we did a great job of that in the first inning, were able to move some runners and get some runs in. Credit to them, the next couple of innings we hit the ball right on the nose and they made some nice plays. Then we got a little flat and complacent. But the important thing was we got the win."

Ashlyn Montgomery walked leading off the game and Brooke Montgomery followed with a double to score her sister. Brooke then scored on double by Hannah Dybalski.

The Tigers eventually loaded the bases with two outs for Payton Hollis, who singled to score Dybalski.

Kassidi Cadle then hit a 2-run single to make the score 5-0. Cadle advanced to second on the throw.

Ashlyn Montgomery came back up to the plate and knocked in Hollis and Cadle to make it 7-0.

But, after getting seven hits in the first inning, Lebanon only had six the rest of the game, scoring only once more when Carly Greene and Lexy Britt hit back-to-back two-out doubles in the sixth.

"You would like to think there was a huge difference that you could fix," Smith said of the last six innings. "But they just made some plays. We got ourselves caught reaching a couple of times and popped the ball up and that was something we were worried about in this park with the way the wind was swirling in. I am pleased overall, we have some little things to clean up and we are still getting our emotions in check. But all-in-all, I am pleased and it is always good to get a conference win on the road."
