Tigers’ Curtis signs with Colgate

Lebanon — Lebanon senior point guard Katie Curtis made her college decision official Thursday afternoon in the Lebanon cafeteria.

Curtis signed her national letter of intent to play at Colgate — a Division I school in the Patriot League.

“It is definitely a huge relief,” Curtis said. “I went to Colgate on a visit and just loved it so it made the decision really easy. The coaching staff at Colgate was very welcoming, I liked what they had going on and it was very reassuring for me.”

Curtis said her decision came down to Colgate and the University of Indianapolis and that it was “probably the most difficult decision (she) ever made.”

But when it came to decide a school, she said that Colgate won out.

“When I got on campus it was beautiful so I was sold there,” Curtis said. “The girls on the team and the coaches too, they were all welcoming. It was homecoming when I was there, so I was able to get the whole feel for the college life. We went to a football game, a hockey game and a volleyball game and I loved how each athlete interacted with one another. I chose Colgate for the Division I experience as well.”

Seeing her sister Alison (who is a sophomore at Harvard) go through the recruiting process helped Katie.

 “I asked her a couple of times ‘what do I do here?’” Curtis said. “And she was able to give me the advice that she would have given herself at that time. Basically, how she handled things, how to stay in contact with coaches and make sure you make yourself available is what I learned from her.”

Curtis said that she was happy to be able to make the decision before her senior high school season.
