Western Boone's Stars look to continue moving forward in 2013

Dover — The Western Boone tennis team has been on an upward trend the past few seasons. With their top two singles players returning, as well as some varsity experience, the Stars are expecting that trend to continue in 2013. "We have had some really good practices," Western Boone head coach Dustin Cunningham said. "We had one that was just mediocre, but it has been a lot more positive than negative. We also have a lot of youth on the team so it has been a good adjustment for those guys." Cunningham knows that his team may not be ready to contend for a conference or sectional championship quite yet. But at the same time, he expects his team to be in the upper half of the Sagamore. "Really the only goal we have set so far is to have a winning record in conference," Cunningham said. "We haven't really hammered down the individual stuff yet. Our main team goal besides that is to just continue to improve throughout the year." Cunningham said there are a couple of clear favorites in the conference, but when you take them away, the other teams are pretty even. "It is interesting because last year everyone lost quite a bit," Cunningham said. "Lebanon obviously is always going to be tough. North Montgomery lost their No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles and Crawfordsville lost a couple of good players but return a good freshman and George Go. I would say, Lebanon and Crawfordsville then it is pretty open. Frankfort returns a lot from a much improved team last year so they will be tough."
