Braves capitalize on Star miscues in win

The Class 3A No. 9 Brebeuf Braves came to western Boone County Tuesday night to face off with the Class 3A No. 13 Stars in what many predict to be a regional preview of October's IHSAA Tournament. Despite missing two of their regulars, the Braves topped the Stars 27-25, 25-19, 25-23. "Brebeuf is a great team," Western Boone head coach Laura Lawson said. "At the end of the day they put pressure on us, their serving was good and they had good touches. But our mental toughness was the difference. We tried to get into runs and we couldn't because we missed crucial serves. In the last game alone, we had two missed serves right in a row when we were trying to make a run, and then we had a net go. What we told the girls is that they can get up as much as they can, but without mental toughness it is going to be tough to win." Western Boone jumped out to a 23-17 lead in the first set, only to see the Braves come back and take the game. Brebeuf was in control of things from there on out.
