Eagles fall just short of HCC golf title

The Zionsville Lady Eagles sat patiently waiting for all the other scores to come in Tuesday afternoon at the HCC Meet at Bear Slide Golf Course in Cicero. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the final group that sealed their fate. Noblesville's No. 1 golfer, Hailey Kluth carded a 75, meaning that the Millers defeated the Eagles by two strokes. "They did a great job," Zionsville head coach Jeff Anderson said of his girls. "Having four girls make all-conference in the HCC says a lot about their game. I think if you ask them, they are going to be really disappointed in the team results. There were definitely two additional shots out there that we could have found somewhere. But we played hard on a tough course and I am proud of them." Zionsville and Hamilton Southeastern were paired together and were probably the two favorites coming into the loaded conference tournament. When the scores from Zionsville and the Royals came in, the Eagles had bettered their counterparts from Hamilton County 326-329. The only two teams left on the course were seventh-ranked Noblesville and ninth-ranked Lafayette Jefferson. Through the first scores to come in, Zionsville had a one shot lead over the Millers with only Kluth's score to go. For more of this story, read Wednesday's Lebanon Reporter.
