Stars get back to winning ways vs. Clinton Central

With so many tall, athletic volleyball players, Western Boone poses a difficult problem for most opponents – and Clinton Central was no exception on Thursday night. Although the Stars’ height up front caused issues, the host Bulldogs were undone by an uncharacteristically high number of self-inflicted errors in a 3-0 setback (25-18, 25-12, 25-20) to the 3A No. 13 Stars. Central had 10 service errors in the three sets, and that was coming off a Northwestern match where the Bulldogs had 17 missed serves. “We just talked about that (Wednesday) in practice,” said Central head coach Jessica Barrentine. “You’re just giving away points instead of giving yourself an opportunity to score. We don’t expect an ace on every serve but we expect solid, aggressive serves. That’s something we’ve got to get ironed out.” Along with the service errors, the Bulldogs (5-4) were called for a number of illegal touches throughout the three sets – although that may have to do more with the officials than anything else since the Stars were also called for a few illegal hits. But a number of balls also dropped into spots on the court that the Bulldogs normally cover. For more of this story, read Friday's Lebanon Reporter.
