Tigers trump Bruins to remain perfect

Friday night’s Sagamore Conference opener was quite the contrast of styles between the wide open offense of the Tri-West Bruins and the smash mouth power running game of the Lebanon Tigers. Bruins quarterback Jake Hendershot either passed or scrambled out of the pocket on all but four plays for the Bruin attack, while Lebanon was content to hand the ball off to its stable of running backs led by senior Jamason Wright. On this night the battle would go to old school, power football as Lebanon dominated both lines’ of scrimmage for the 27-7 victory. The win pushed Lebanon to its first 3-0 start since the 1998 campaign as it was coming off its only sectional title the season before. The loss dropped Tri-West to a 1-2 start. “Our defense has been great against the run all year,” said Lebanon head coach Kent Wright. “Through 3 games we have held our opponents to negative yards rushing. We still have to get better against the pass, but I am very proud of our defense; we are very young on that side of the ball.” As the game got under way it seemed as if both teams were feeling the conference jitters as both offensive units looked unsettled on their opening drives.
