Eagles bounce back with victory over Noblesville

Noblesville has never beaten Zionsville in football since both teams entered the Hoosier Crossroads Conference, but Friday night’s contest at St. Vincent Health Field was one of the closest in the history of the series. The previously undefeated Millers came in with their best team yet, ranked No. 9 in Class 6A, but Class 5A No. 7 Zionsville scrapped together just enough offense to come away with a 14-9 win to move to 2-1 in the HCC. “Spiritually we were kind of down after last week because we kind of wondered how we could stink it up like that,” Zionsville coach Larry McWhorter said of a surprising 30-6 loss at McCutcheon. “We had a great rebound tonight but I want to give credit to their defense. They have come a long way.” Noblesville came in averaging 26 points per game, but he Eagles used their defense to slow down the read-option led by quarterback T.C. McKiernan. Josh Trewartha led a defensive line that sacked the mobile quarterback six times in the opening half, and Trewartha himself got him four times behind the line of scrimmage.
