Athenians no match for Lebanon

Lebanon — The Lebanon Tigers softball team made sure there wasn’t a let-up after their 16-1 win Wednesday night.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 6-1 win against Crawfordsville.

“It really wasn’t what I anticipated coming into the game — it wasn’t a real high-energy game for us,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “But overall, we got some plays from girls who are in new positions so it shows they are getting more comfortable. I think we had some better hitting in the middle of the lineup. I am fairly pleased.”

Carly Greene reached on an error with one out in the first and came in to score on a triple by Hannah Dybalski.

Lexy Britt followed with a single to make it a 2-0 game.

Lebanon added single runs in the second and third innings.

In the second, three-straight singles by Makayla Copeland, Payton Hollis and Whitney Cosgray plated a run.

One inning later, Dybalski singled, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on a single by Madelyn Smith.

Crawfordsville scored its lone run in the fourth, but Montgomery shut the door from there, retiring eight-straight batters and allowing just two singles in the final three innings.

Dybalski hit a 2-run double in the sixth to add the final runs.
