WeBo baseball claims three straight

Manson — The Western Boone baseball team got dominate pitching all day long Saturday at Clinton Prairie.

The Stars’ hurlers allowed just two runs in 13 innings and swept the double header — 3-2 (eight innings) and 14-0 (five innings).

“I am really proud of the kids,” Western Boone head coach Dave Sloan said. “They fought every pitch. We need to get our bats going a little more, but overall I am very pleased with the way they performed.”

In game one, Western Boone scored in the top of the first.

Clay Biesecker was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and two batters later, LV Bowden singled him to second. Biesecker stole third and the throw went into left field allowing him to score.

The Stars wouldn’t score again in regulation.

“I wish I knew the answer (to why we aren’t scoring runs),” Sloan said. “Prior to today, we left 72 runners on in seven games. So if we can solve that magic, our season looks different. We have to move runners against the plate.”

Clinton Prairie scored an unearned run in the fourth to tie the game at one.

After neither team could score in the final three innings, Western Boone retook the lead in the eighth.

Biesecker led off the inning with a single, and was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Cameron Cline. Nathanial Bye singled to put runners on the corners, and Biesecker scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. Bye later scored on a perfect squeeze bunt by Jeremy Tuck.

Sloan said everything opened up when Biesecker reached to lead off the inning.
