Tigers sweep Chargers with 20-7 win

Linden — It wasn’t the most complete game the Lebanon softball team has played this season — but at the end of the day, it was more than enough to sweep North Montgomery Thursday.

The Tigers scored 15 runs in the final three innings to top the Chargers 20-7.

“In a conference game we will take winning ugly,” Lebanon head coach Steve Smith said. “We didn’t play the way I wanted to coming in here. We started the game off well, scoring the four runs (in the first inning) and we were hitting the ball solid. But then we went back to popping the ball up and got a little complacent and lost focus. We can’t do that, but later in the game we played pretty well and focused.”

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, and led comfortably until the fourth, when a 3-run homer by North Montgomery cut the lead to 5-4.

Lebanon broke away in the fifth.

The inning started harmlessly enough for North Montgomery, as Madelyn Smith hit a one-out single and stood at first with two outs.

But after a single by Makayla Copeland, Peyton Hollis tripled home both runners and scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4.

Whitney Cosgray doubled and scored on a single by Ashlyn Montgomery — who later scored on a double by Carly Greene.

Hannah Dybalski made it 11-4 with a single to score Greene.

Lebanon went up 12-4 in the sixth on a RBI-double by Copeland.
