Merchants go 3-1 on weekend, move to 10-1

Lebanon — The Lebanon Merchants suffered their first loss of the season Saturday in the first game of a double header against the Midwest Tomahawks.

But they responded well to the adversity, winning the next three contests to improve to 10-1 on the season.

“I wondered how we would react to our first loss,” Lebanon manager Ron Ebert said. “You never know how a team will react. Will they fall and hit rock bottom like a snake’s belly? Or come back and fight like a caged tiger? Our team reacted the right way. They came out and continued to fight and have fun — and that was good to see.”

The Merchants actually led 6-1 after four innings in the seven-inning game in Game 1 Saturday, but the Tomahawks came back to tie it in the seventh.

After Lebanon scored twice in the eighth innings, the Tomahawks got three in the bottom half to win.

In game two, the Merchants trailed late, but got a rally going to win the game 8-7.

Sunday, against the Bloomington Stars, the Merchants trailed 3-1 in the seventh.

But after three walks loaded the bases, Zionsville’s Nick Barrientos laced a 2-run single to tie the game before Jason Wuerfel won it on a sacrifice fly.
